More Celebrities are using their star power to promote
better awareness of many issues that bedevil this world today. Bono, Angelina Jolie and Oprah Winfrey set the gold standard for Celebrity activism. Bono and his "One" Campaign that riases awareness of global poverty and Aids.
Jolie is Good will Ambassador with the United Nations High Commsioner for Refugees. Jolie pays her own way for UN missions and donates one third of her salary to the refugee cause. She and Brad Pitt sealed the deal with People magazine and Hello! magazine to have them buy pictures of their daughter Shiloh so the proceeds will go to as yet an unamed charity.
Oprah Winfrey she gave $51.8 million to charity last year, according to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, and is the only celebrity in the journal's list of top donors.
Nowadays it seems that for a Celebrity of any note to stay on top of their game, then it would be a cool idea to get involved in charities of their choice. This would raise their profile quite a bit and make them more marketable while at the same time they are doing a world of good for people who are not as fortunate as them. Not a bad idea and one whose time has come! The source material and inspiration for this post comes from Donna Freydkin writer for the USATODAY.com
