Bill Gates is going to give up his…

June 16, 2006

daily duties at Microsoft to concentrate on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation the largest foundation in the world valued at about $29.1 billion. Mr. Gates who will be 50 will stay on as company Chairman over a 2 year period as his duties are gradually turned over to more jumior level executives.

He did make it clear that the man, who along with Steven Ballmer, both whom cofounded Microsoft, would not leave the company. They are moving more responsibilites to lower ranking execs so as to better respond to changing business challenges.

Sounds very logical to me! Hey who am I to say? Things do change in this world. And Microsoft will have to change in order to stay in business.

In the meantime Mr. Gates can focus on the foundation that helps out in a lot of things like HIV research, Malaria and Tuberculosis. In the U.S. it has put massive resources behind reforming education. So I wish Mr. Gates all the luck in the world in his new pursuit.
