Steven Hawking said that the late Pope John Paul
once said that scientists should not be studying the beginnings of the universe because it is the work of God. Mr hawking said that the statement by the Pope was made at a cosmology conference at the Vatican. Hawking did quote the Pope as saying "It's OK to study the universe and where it began. But we should not inquire into the beginning itself because that was the moment of creation and the work of God."
Mr. Hawking then made a humorous quote stating that he was glad that the Pope did not realize that he had presented a paper at the conference suggesting how the universe began. Hawking said "I didn't fancy the thought of being handed over to the Inquisition like Galileo." He he neither would I for that fact!:) The source material for this post came from this article written by MIN LEE, Associated Press Writer.
